This module is approved as a discovery module
The aim of this module is to consider and discuss current issues in business and how they impact companies in practice. The module will be based upon recent and current real-world events, and it is therefore inevitable that the precise content of the syllabus will change to reflect this. The module also aims to enhance the commercial awareness and employability of students.
On completion of this module students should:
1. Have an awareness of current business issues across all business disciplines including management, marketing, economics, accounting, international business and HRM;
2. Have a deeper understanding of how these topics relate to companies they would like to work for;
3. Be able to articulate and express clearly in writing their understanding and awareness of such issues;
4. Be able to write a business style report;
5. Have a greater commercial awareness; and
6. Be able to articulate their commercial awareness when applying for graduate jobs.
The lectures will provide an understanding of the topics. The seminars will provide the environment for a guided discussion on the topics and how they relate to companies the students are interested in working for.
This module is designed for incoming exchange students and non-Business students who would like to gain an overview of business topics and increase their employability.
The module aims to give an overview of business issues to non-business students and incoming exchange students. Many exchange students take modules from different departments and look for a business module without pre-requisites. Exchange students who major in business may find the UK perspective on these topics of interest.

- Commercial Awareness;
- An Employer's perspective on current issues; and
- Demonstrating Commercial Awareness in Job applications.

Students will need to independently research companies of interest and regularly read the business news in order to prepare for seminar discussions and complete the assessed work.
Students will be given the opportunity to submit a draft of one section of their report and receive feedback on this before the final submission.
